What Canva does for you

The Canva skill connects your Canva account to one of your Botonom agents, so design work can start and finish inside a normal chat. You can ask "What designs do we have for the summer campaign?", "Create a new Instagram post for the discount announcement", or "Export that presentation as a PDF and give it to me here", and the agent handles it against your real Canva account.

The agent never redraws or replaces Canva. Creative editing stays in Canva where it belongs: every design the agent lists or creates comes back with a one-tap edit link that opens it in the Canva editor. What the agent adds is speed around the edges, finding designs, spinning up new ones from the right preset, pushing brand images into your library, and turning a finished design into a file that lands directly in the conversation.

Exports arrive as real files in the chat: PDFs, PNG or JPG images, or PowerPoint files, stored durably by Botonom, so the link keeps working later.

What it can do

Once connected and assigned to an agent, here is what the agent can do with your Canva account:

  • Find your designs. List your Canva designs, optionally filtered by title, each with its edit and view links.
  • Open one design. Fetch a single design with its links and page count.
  • Create new designs. Start a design from a preset type (presentation, Instagram post, and other standard formats) or from an exact custom size in pixels, and optionally start it from an image the agent just uploaded.
  • Upload brand assets. Push an image from any URL (a product photo, a logo, a campaign visual) into your Canva media library, ready to use in the editor.
  • Export and deliver. Export any design as PDF, PNG, JPG or PPTX. The agent waits for Canva to render it, stores the file, and drops it into the chat.
  • Check a slow export. Very large designs can take a while to render; the agent can check back on a running export and deliver the file the moment it is ready.

Everything above is grounded in what the skill actually exposes, so the agent will not promise design actions it cannot perform.

How to use it

1. Install it. Open the Skill Marketplace in Botonom, find Canva under Marketing & Ads, and click Install. During the current phase every skill is free to install, no card required.

2. Assign it to an agent. Pick the agent that should handle design work, for example a General Assistant or an Executive Secretary. Only agents you give this skill to can touch your Canva account.

3. Connect your Canva account. The first time, Botonom asks you to connect Canva (see the next section).

4. Just ask. Talk to the agent in normal language:

User: What designs do we have about the spring campaign?
Agent: I found 3 designs matching "spring": "Spring Campaign Hero", "Spring Sale Story" and "Spring Newsletter Banner". Want the edit link for any of them, or an export?

User: Create a new Instagram post for our 20% discount announcement
Agent: Done. I created "20% Discount Announcement" as an Instagram post. Here is the edit link to drop in your visuals and copy: canva.com/design/...

User: Export the campaign hero as a PDF and send it here
Agent: Exporting now... Here is your file: Spring-Campaign-Hero.pdf

Connecting your Canva account

This skill uses a secure Connect & Install flow, not a pasted API key. When you assign it to an agent, Botonom shows a button to connect Canva. You sign in to Canva once and approve access, and Botonom handles the connection from there.

A few things worth knowing:

  • You connect Canva only once. The connection is company-level, so every agent you later give this skill to uses the same connection.
  • Works with free and Pro accounts. You use your own Canva account; whatever your Canva plan allows in the editor still applies.
  • The account owner should connect it. Connecting grants design and asset access for your team's Canva account, so it is best done by an owner or admin.
  • You can disconnect any time from your Botonom connection settings, which immediately cuts off access.
Your Canva login and access token are stored securely and are never shown in chat or logs. Botonom refreshes the connection automatically in the background, so you will not be asked to reconnect on every use.

Good to know (limits and security)

A few honest boundaries so you know what to expect:

  • Creative editing happens in Canva. The agent creates designs and delivers exports, but it does not move elements, change text inside a layout, or apply templates for you. For that, it hands you the edit link.
  • Exports can take a moment. Canva renders exports in the background. Small designs are usually ready in seconds; very large ones can take longer, and the agent will check back rather than block.
  • Asset uploads are for images. The upload tool takes an image from a URL (up to 20 MB) into your Canva library. Fonts, videos and audio are not part of this skill today.
  • Role-aware by design. Reading and listing designs is available to your whole team; creating, uploading and exporting are limited to manager-level roles and above, and each agent only gets the capabilities you grant it.
  • Your Canva plan still rules. Features gated by your Canva subscription (like some export options or brand tools) follow whatever your own Canva account allows.
