Web Research
Gives your Botonom agent controlled internet access: web search and page reading with strict trust guardrails, so it can look up live facts without inheriting the web's risks.
We start with What Web Research does for you, move on to What it can do, cover The guardrails (why this is safe), and wrap up with How to use it.
What Web Research does for you
The Web Research skill lets your Botonom agent reach the live web when its installed skills do not cover a question: search for current facts, open a result, or read a page you paste. News, competitor pages, exchange rates, documentation, "what does this site say": all become answerable with real, current content.
It is deliberately NOT free browsing. Your agents hold company data and can send messages and posts, so web access ships inside Botonom's trust guardrails instead of as an open door.
What it can do
Once assigned to an agent:
- Search the web. Top results with titles, links and snippets.
- Read a page. Any public page fetched as clean, readable text (main content only, size-capped). Anti-bot pages go through a managed crawl fallback.
- Combine with other skills. Research a topic, then draft a document, design a card, or prepare a post from what it found.
The guardrails (why this is safe)
Web content is the classic path for prompt injection: a malicious page can contain hidden text that tries to give your agent instructions. Web Research is built so that path is cut:
- Web text is data, never instructions. Everything fetched is marked untrusted; the agent reasons about it but does not obey it.
- Approval gate after reading. Once the agent reads outside content in a turn, any outgoing send in that same turn (a post, an email, a message) is blocked until a person confirms it.
- Size caps. Page text and result counts are capped, so a browse cannot balloon your token usage.
- No internal addresses. Private, local and internal network addresses are always refused.
How to use it
1. Install it. Open the Skill Marketplace, find Web Research under Productivity, and click Install.
2. Assign it to an agent. No account or API key is needed.
3. Just ask. Talk to the agent in normal language:
User: What does botonom.com/en/press say? One sentence.
Agent: It announces Botonom's launch: a B2B platform to hire pre-qualified AI employees that work 24/7 across support, sales, operations and finance.
User: Check the news for our industry and give me three headlines.
Agent: Here are three current headlines with sources: ...
User: Read this page and draft an Instagram caption from it.
Agent: Here is the draft. Since I just read outside content, I need your confirmation before posting anywhere.
