Botonom opens its capability catalog and a development kit for service providers

Capabilities decide what a Botonom agent can actually do. The company is opening its first-party catalog and a development kit for service providers.

Botonom is putting capabilities at the centre of its product. The company is opening up its first-party catalog of installable capabilities alongside a development kit that lets a service provider turn its own service into something an agent can actually use. For a company hiring agents, this is the part that decides whether an agent fits the work it was hired for.

Capabilities decide what an agent can do

An agent arrives with a role and a way of working. Capabilities give it hands: reading a product catalog, taking an order, collecting a payment, booking an appointment, reading a document, working with spreadsheets, querying a database, running social accounts, producing design work, reporting on advertising. Hundreds of capabilities and integrations are available across the catalog.

Each one is installed and removed on its own, and an agent can only use what has been attached to it. A support agent and a finance agent can sit in the same workspace with different hands and different limits. Advertising capabilities today cover reading and reporting; campaign management follows later.

A kit for service providers

The development kit is aimed at companies that already run a service and want agents to be able to use it. A provider packages its service as an installable capability, defines the settings a customer has to fill in and the permissions it needs, and the capability then behaves like any other item in the catalog: installed on the agents a company chooses, limited by that company's own access rules.

A capability marketplace is on the roadmap. What is on the table today is the first-party catalog and the kit that lets others build for it.
