Business Central
Lets your Botonom agent read live Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central data (invoices, e-fatura, customers, companies) and answer finance questions in plain chat.
This guide begins with What Business Central does for you, continues through What it can do, Installing and using it, Connecting your account, and finishes with Good to know: limits, roles and security.
What Business Central does for you
The Business Central skill connects your Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central account to a Botonom agent, so your team can ask finance questions in everyday language and get answers straight from your live accounting data.
Instead of logging into Business Central, opening the right company, and clicking through invoice lists, you simply ask your agent. It reads the numbers from Business Central and replies in seconds, right inside chat.
Here is what it can reach for you:
- Your environments: the Production and Sandbox setups on your Microsoft tenant.
- Your companies: every company (legal entity) inside an environment.
- Your customers: names, contact details, and outstanding balances.
- Your sales invoices (e-fatura): what you have billed, to whom, when, and whether it is paid.
- Your purchase invoices: what your suppliers have billed you.
What it can do
Under the hood the skill gives your agent five focused, read-only lookups. In plain terms:
- List your environments so you know which Production or Sandbox setup the numbers come from.
- List your companies inside an environment, so the right legal entity is used for invoices and customers.
- Look up customers by name, and see contact details, currency, and how much they still owe (balance due).
- List your sales invoices (e-fatura) filtered by date range, by customer, and by status (for example Draft, Open, Paid, or Canceled). The agent can also add up the totals for you.
- List your purchase invoices filtered by date range, by supplier (vendor), and by status.
Because the agent understands natural language, it combines these for you. Ask for "unpaid invoices from June" and it filters by date and status in one step, then sums the total.
Installing and using it
1. Install from the Skill Marketplace. Open the Business Central skill, click Install, and choose which agent should have it. Good fits are finance-facing agents such as a Bookkeeper, an Operations Helper, or an Executive Secretary.
2. Connect your Microsoft account when prompted (see the next section).
3. Just ask in chat. Once connected, talk to your agent normally:
User: Show me the sales invoices from June that are still unpaid.
Agent: You have 7 open sales invoices dated June 2026, totalling
142,850.00 TRY. The largest is INV-001042 to Acme Ltd
(48,300.00 TRY, due 30 June). Want the full list?
User: How much does Acme Ltd still owe us in total?
Agent: Acme Ltd has a balance due of 61,200.00 TRY across their
open invoices. Their last invoice was INV-001042 on 12 June.
User: List this month's purchase invoices from our packaging supplier.
Agent: I found 3 purchase invoices this month from Ambalaj A.S.,
totalling 18,400.00 TRY including tax. INV-P-338 (5,900 TRY)
is still Open; the other two are Paid.
You never type filters or codes. Describe what you want, and the agent translates it into the right Business Central lookup.
Connecting your account
Business Central is a connection-based skill. You do not paste an API key or token anywhere. Instead you link your Microsoft account once, using a secure Connect & Install sign-in.
When you install the skill (or the first time an agent needs the data), Botonom shows a Connect button. That opens Microsoft's own sign-in page (Azure AD / Entra), where you approve access. After you approve, Business Central hands Botonom a secure access token. Setup takes about three minutes.
A few things worth knowing:
- The connection is made at the company level, so once it is linked, any of your skills that use Business Central can share it. You only sign in once.
- Botonom reads which Microsoft tenant and environment to use from the connection itself, so there is nothing technical for you to configure. If you run more than one environment, Production is preferred by default.
- You can disconnect at any time from your workspace settings, which immediately cuts off access.
Good to know: limits, roles and security
Read-only, for now. Today the skill only reads: environments, companies, customers, sales invoices (e-fatura), and purchase invoices. It cannot create or post invoices, change records, register payments, or delete anything. Writing (posting) and reporting e-fatura status are on the roadmap, not available yet.
Not everyone in chat can see finance data. These lookups touch financial records, so they are role-gated. Only agents and users with a business role (such as staff, manager, admin, owner, or full access) can trigger them. Public or anonymous chat visitors, for example on a website widget, cannot pull your invoices or customer balances.
Your data stays in your workspace. The Microsoft access token is stored securely (encrypted) and is never shown in chat or logs. The agent fetches data live from Business Central when you ask, and uses it only to answer you inside your own Botonom workspace.
It reflects your real accounting. The figures come straight from Business Central, so they are only as current and correct as the data entered there. The agent reports what your system holds; it is not a substitute for your accountant's review.
